Painting History! How I Left My Mark on Westfield's Streets for America's 250th

If you’ve taken a stroll down East Broad or Elm recently, you might have noticed a brand new splash of color near Sole Shoes.
I am thrilled and honored to have been selected by the Westfield Public Arts Commission (WPAC) to turn a mundane traffic utility box into something a bit more magical right here in downtown Westfield! As our community comes together to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, I feel lucky to leave a splash of creativity on our streets.

I'm officially a public muralist!

I wanted to transform the box into a wraparound visual narrative that reflects the identity of Westfield as a town rooted in history, strengthened by community growth, and energized by forward thinking innovation. The box tells a story that unfold on all sides to invite viewers to experience Westfield past, present and future in a single composition.

Mindowaskin Park, the first train through Westfield to Somerville, and the Miller-Cory House

The color palette starts with earthy tones and progresses to brighter to suggesting innovation.

Westfield Stars include Judy Blume (I was surprised!) and Virginia Apgar

There was a terrible fire in Westfield in 1874

I loved this project! (Some of the 90 degree days were hard though)

How the whole thing started

Box is located at the corner of East Broad and Elm near Sole Shoes. Stay tuned for the how to do an outdoor mural post coming soon!
