SCHPIRERR FARBEN Colored Pencil Review and Marble Drawing

This 72 set of colored pencils by Schpirerr Farben was a delightful surprise.

With a price point of approximately $27 for 72 pencils, I did not have high expectations. But I am happy to report that I was very wrong.

They come in a sturdy tin and are housed in three easily removable trays. They are oil based and the colors are identifiable by number.

The pencils are the approximate diameter of Prismacolor pencils, and feel like a combo of of Prismas and Polychromos. I did a review of the pencils in the video below as I drew and colored an orange glass marble, and had to use many layers. There was no build up, and I love the way the image turned out.

I had no problem sharpening the pencils. They have the feel of a more expensive pencil.

I am looking forward to using these pencils again, and I hope you consider using them. You can purchase from the link on right >>>

It is so fun too see all the wonderful work out there. It can also be frustrating when you don't know how to do one of the effects you see.

Here is a color-along video that includes a how-to color water droplets segment.

Coloring Schedule on YouTube

I am so happy to announce my new schedule for YouTube!

                                   Watch this video HERE.

From this time forward, I will be creating two coloring videos each week...one on Wednesday and one on Sunday.

These videos will contain how tos, color-alongs, and some interesting and helpful tips.

I posted two this past week, and showed shading, highlighting, and how to color a large area in one color and add depth and dimension.

Coloring with Polychromos vs. Conte Pastel Pencils

Here is a video where I color one tomato with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils and one tomato with Conte pastel pencils.

I originally thought I would just do it for myself--then I figured, why not share!

Nothing fancy and far from perfect coloring technique--just a quickly.

Interesting results!

Coloring with Faber Castell Pencils and Lolliz Gel Pens

Here is a video using a combo of Faber Castell Pencils and Lolliz Gel Pens in the book COLORING DREAMS.

I chose the page I did because there is a lot of white space in the flower and hummingbird, and I wanted to show how to enhance larger and somewhat empty spaces.

I used the gel pens to add highlights and detail for the most part.

Enjoy!

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day! (With a Visit from Willow)

I was excited to find out that today is Squirrel Appreciation Day because I love the zesty little guys.

I have been feeding a squirrel I named Sandy (after the squirrel on Spongebob Squarepants) every day on my back deck for years. She comes to visit several times a week, and if I leave my screen opened long enough she comes right in. I started giving her food down by the trees now because I don't want her to go into someone's house who is not as happy to see her as I am.

Another reason I like today is because I am godmother to a very wonderful squirrel named Willow.

Willow happy at home munching a branch.
Willow fell from a tree when he was only a few weeks old and was lucky enough to be brought to a licensed animal rehabber named Brooklyn.

Almost four years later he is an adult fox squirrel who weighs almost four pounds, and lives cage free in Brooklyn's home. He is completely potty trained and eats everything from tree branches from the yard to sweet potatoes, and the occasional Oreo. He is an unbelievable handful and also almost unbelievably smart. Willow has his own Facebook group--you can visit HERE.

This drawing of Willow was featured at Galleria West in New Jersey. He's quite a beautiful creature--very symmetrical and lovely to behold--kind of the Brad Pitt of squirrels according to his mama.

There is never a dull moment with Willow, and I am happy there is a special day to celebrate squirrels.

Although I think Brooklyn would say every day is Squirrel Appreciation Day at her house.

I hope you share today's video, How to Draw Willow the Squirrel with a young person who is interested in art--and maybe squirrels.
